My New Hat Collection “Life Death And Fertility”

As promised my second collection of headpieces, all one offs. Exploring the theme the fragility of life and beauty, my own version of a vanitas.

In the past few years I have been made aware of my own mortality, how life is fleeting. Dealing with the ageing process and my chronic illness I realise I shall probably never be a mother…… these headpieces are my babies.

Over the last 8 months I have been working on a sculpture made of flowers, birds wings, insects, snakeskin and berries. This project is still not finished. The headpiece you see in these photographs is a wearable piece of the sculpture. The completed sculpture will be exhibited at The Horsebridge Gallery Whitstable, part of a group exhibition in November.

This is also a sneak peek from the shoot of my couture hat collection.

(Not on my shop as of yet so please contact me if you are interested in any of the designs)

Finally finished my pigeon headpiece, it’s only taken me 4 and a bit months. This is a view from the back, a pigeons head and pigeon skull nestled together on a bed of violets and crushed butterfly wings. This piece represents the death of my father and it’s side effects, the loss of innocence and childhood. This piece is called "Father & Daughter"
